Design Visualization

Welcome to Design Visualisation Semester 2

Pratical Class: Free Hand Lines and Writing

The photos below are what I have done in my first practical class.

Project 1: Visualization, Observation & Render Techniques

It is an individual project. For this project, we were required to produce a minimum of nine drawings on different topics. The topics were Animal or Figure in Action, Object in Nature Context, Tracing a Photo, Spatial Communication, Geometric Projections, Human Activity, Series of 5 minute sketch, Creative Perspective, and Spatial Structural and Joint. Also, we were required to sketch our sketches at different places such as Sunway Pyramid, Taman Tasik Perdana, food court and so on.

In the beginning, I found that it was hard for me to sketch nine drawings by observing the spaces and objects, and using different materials such as pen, water colour, acrylic and so on. However, through some practices, I done my project 1 in a week.

Here are some of my own sketches...

                                                         -Object in Nature Context-

Through this project, I have recognized my potential for creativity, self-expression and visual awareness. Also, I am able to identify the fundamental principles, elements and techniques in sketching, drawing, design process and presentation skills. Thanks to my tutor =)

Project 2A: Developing Architecture Drawings (Understanding Drawings Conventions)

Our Project 2A is also an individual project. I was under Mr. Angus's group. Each student has to choose 2-3 objects for this architecture drawing. I have chosen a perfume and a box for my own drawing. It was my first time do the architecture drawing which required to measure and record the objects and present them in drawings technically from direct observation. Therefore, I was excited.

However, while I was drawing, I was stressed because I faced some problems such as I did not know how to use scale ruler. After explaining by Mr. Angus, I was able to use it correctly in my drawings.

     Here are my architecture drawings....

At the end of this project, I was happy and satisfied as I have learnt to identify the fundamental principles, elements and techniques in sketching, drawing, design process and presentation skills. In addition,  I am also able to demonstrate observation skills and be able to record, organize, interpret and describe a variety of
issues via visual communications effectively through this project.

Project 2B: Bubble Diagrammatic Analysis

It was my first group assignment in this subject. We were required to form a group of six. My group members were Tan Ai-Qi, Aidil, Sharon Wong, William Tan and Phang Kai Sheng. Then, each group has to choose a site from Taylor's University Lakeside Campus. After that, we were required to visit the site and collect all of the data and information such as spaces functions, circulation, sensory factors, daylight, ventilation and so on. Also, we discussed together and distributed the works to every group members to work on the site analysis report. My part is to do the S.W.O.T (Strengths, Weakness, Opportunity, Threat) and Geographical Factors.

Once we have done our report, we were also required to do it into slides form for our group presentation. I did not satisfy with my presentation as I was nervous and did not prepare well before my presentation. However, I was happy that I have built a better rapport with my group members.

Same as Project 2A, I was able to identify  identify the fundamental principles, elements and techniques in sketching, drawing, design process and presentation skills. Furthermore, I am also able to demonstrate observation skills and be able to record, organize, interpret and describe a variety of issues via visual communications effectively through this project.

Final Project: Art Installation (Art Tree)

Our final project is an art installation which was divided into two parts, one is individual and another one is group work. First of all, in a group of six, we were required to choose a location for our art tree. The location we chose was outside the Grand Hall. After that, for individual work, each student has to design an art installation which related to a theme or issue. Then, individually, we have to produce one A2 sheet which included a brief written explanation explaining the thinking behind the scheme (150 words), doodle, location plan, architecture drawings, one key perspective sketch and selection of materials. Also, each student has to produce a study model to communicate ideas visually.

Frankly,  it was a tough task for me. My ideas have been rejected by my tutor and I have no idea how to do a study model at all. I was stressed at that moment. However, my final idea came from an article which is about animal abusing. Therefore, I decided to use the theme of Circus Cruelty: Stop Animal Abusing in my art installation. After approved by Mr. Angus, I started work on my  individual final project and here is a few of my own architecture drawings and photos of my model...

This art installation is to show that we know that most people go to the circus because they love animals, what they do not realize is that they are supporting an industry that engages in animal cruelty. After the submission of everyone's A2 presentation board and study model, lecturers will choose a total of 15 art trees from all of our art trees.

Although my art tree was not selected by lecturers, I am able to demonstrate observation and visualization skills in a variety of ways depending on the area of specialization being pursued with an emphasis on the process of drawing at the end of this individual part of this final project. In addition, I have also developed my confidence to use drawing as a means of communication to express two dimensional and three dimensional ideas. Furthermore, I am also able to interpret and apply the importance of visual hierarchy and how to carry visual hierarchy across through presentation.

I enjoy this subject very much. I have gained some knowledge about design visualization. Thank you myb tutor, Mr Angus =D
